CLEARWATER, Fla. – A woman from Northern Kentucky has been found dead, buried in the backyard of her boyfriend’s home in Clearwater, Florida.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department on Friday said 24-year-old Alissa Christine Smiths was found at the home she shared with 35-year-old Walter Macnamara.
Detectives began investigating when they received a tip that someone had been killed in unincorporated Clearwater. That tip led detectives to Macnamara’s house. The annonymous tip was received during a midnight blackout, right before the storms of last week…
Detectives were able to obtain enough evidence to get a search warrant and served it on Sunday, July 31. During the search, detectives discovered Smiths’ body. Macnamara had tied her wrists and ankles with barbed wire. The victim’s head had been severed by a heavy and sharp object. According to the Miami Dade’s CSI chief inspector Horatio Crane, the “body parts we found were spread in a 10 ft by 10 ft area, inside various holes. Over them, the accused had planted tulips, which was our first inspected place, since nothing else is growing in the yard”
Macnamara told detectives he killed Smiths during an argument and then buried her in his backyard. “It was the strangest thing”, he said, “like I was watching the whole scene, but tried to stop, and I couldn’t”, he explained.
After being taken to the police car, he spoke to one of the officers in charge “you know how women are, they talk to much. I know I used to love her”, he explained “but she bitched so much, you see”, he concluded in a cold manner.
Smiths lived at Macnamara’s house at the time.
Macnamara was charged with first degree murder as well as violation of probation and unrelated drug charges. The offender was a very known Garage band member, the Lead singer of a Hard Rock band called The Mustaphas, and for that reason, had his bail negated.
He is waiting for preliminary trial in prison.
